I know I escaped a terribly catastrophe a couple of days ago, when Hurricane Ike veered north away from my front yard. However, my good fortune means trauma for many others. My heart goes out to those who weren’t quite so lucky.
This is a good time to take stock of my extremely blessed life and to remember how incredibly lucky I really am with wonderful family and friends. I include my Squidoo friends here as well; you are so supportive and helpful, even from great distances. Thank you.
I sure am glad I’ve been lensbuilding the last couple of weeks and given myself a little extra padding time before the end of the month. Latest projections say that Hurricane Ike is headed for my front door. I’m about 50 yards from the water, so both wind and water surge are a concern. I may not be doing much Squidooing the next few days. I know I needed a little time away, but JEEZ! I’ll try to stay in touch when I can.
Since real life is trying to intrude on my squidoo time, I’ve written only one new lens today. I’ve been pushing myself for the last week and today, I can’t find a topic for a new lens….nothing…. there is NOTHING interesting enough right now to write about. I think a break may be in order. What do non-Squids do with their time?
Here’s my new lens for today – more chicken:
Wow, am I dragging! I managed my two new lenses to keep up with my goal of building two a day for Giant-dom. But that’s about it. I’m burnt out on lensbuilding for the day. Here are the two newest lenses:
My goal for lensbuilding right now is two a day in order to make the Giant deadline. Finished two yesterday, but today I got up and turned on the computer and……..NO CONNECTION! I fussed around trying to fix it for a while, then turned to Plan B: I took a nap.
Went to the public library to use their free wifi and managed to finish one lens, but other obligations cut my working time short. I got home to find my 13-year-old son ON THE INTERNET. While I had been taking my nap, he messed with it, because there was NO WAY that he could go without a connection for a whole weekend. He rebooted the router. That’s it. I had rebooted the modem, but have never had any trouble with the router. He had gone to a movie while I was still asleep, so hadn’t been able to tell me he’d fixed it. I had a very nice time at the library, thank you very much. Here are the new lenses for yesterday and today:

The deadline for Giant Squid-dom is coming up at the end of September. I am really trying to get there. Today I have 36 published lenses, so I still have a way to go. I have to thank my Giant Squid Mentor ThomasC and ALL of the Mentors for their help and encouragement the last few weeks. I certainly wouldn’t be getting nearly as much accomplished without them. Thomas and the other Mentors ROCK.
Here are a couple of the lenses I’ve built recently:
I made pizza on the gas grill last night. Right on the grate! I had imagined that the dough would drop down between the grates and I would have a charred mess. Boy, was I excited when I put paper thin raw dough on the grill and…….it worked!  I guess it sears the dough so quickly that a little crust forms immediately. Cooked it for about a minute, then flipped it with a couple of spatulas, put the topping on it and cooked for a couple more minutes. I need a little kitchen torch to brown the cheese nicely. The bottom of the crust burns before the cheese gets browned.
All in all, a great success. It tasted fabulous, even a little charred on the bottom. Stay tuned for a new lens on grilled pizza. In the meantime, check out How to Make Pizza Dough and Make the Perfect Pizza Crust.
