My Life as a Squid

I’m Chugging Toward Giantdom, Despite the Internet Gnomes

My goal for lensbuilding right now is two a day in order to make the Giant deadline.  Finished two yesterday, but today I got up and turned on the computer and……..NO CONNECTION!   I fussed around trying to fix it for a while, then turned to Plan B:  I took a nap.

Went to the public library to use their free wifi and managed to finish one lens, but other obligations cut my working time short.  I got home to find my 13-year-old son ON THE INTERNET.  While I had been taking my nap, he messed with it, because there was NO WAY that he could go without a connection for a whole weekend.   He rebooted the router.  That’s it.  I had rebooted the modem, but have never had any trouble with the router.  He had gone to a movie while I was still asleep, so hadn’t been able to tell me he’d fixed it.  I had a very nice time at the library, thank you very much.  Here are the new lenses for yesterday and today:

    Shh!
    That a serviceman’s secret trick!
I find it incredible what even big time companies will pay for. Just this past year I went to a rather large company that was having trouble connecting their network to the Internet.

Because I was working for a company subcontracted to do local service for a national tech support company, I had to follow their procedure, and trouble shoot while talking to their tech over the phone.

After several hours of getting nowhere, I finally asked the support tech if I could try something, he gave me the OK — I shut down the entire network (after getting an OK from the on site contact), including the router and modem, then restarted everything one device at a time.

After everything restarted, everyone could connect to the Internet.

Left to my own design, I would have had this done in less than a hour, but because of how these tech support companies work, I spent about 5 hours there!

Amazingly enough, I can’t get a job working for these big companies because I have no technical degree!

    Oh, well :P
